WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrade used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new gear. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item upgrader kit and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is even if those items come from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an Item level upgrade that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
